Tasmania

After New Zealand we arrived in Tasmania. We flew on Virgin Airlines from Christchurch to Melbourne and then to Hobart. We stayed in a posh hotel called Rydges in room 21. We had a nice view and the ship you can see in the picture is The Princess. The Princess was an enormous cruise ship.

After we left Hobart we went through Huonville down to Hastings Hot Spring pools. Then we went up to the orchard near Cygnet where Kirsty and Clem worked. After that we drove all the way to Mt Field and camped for one night and then stayed in the Government huts for one night. The Government huts were very old. We went swimming in Platypus Tarn because it was very hot.

After we left Mt Field we went up to Ulverstone and camped there for two nights. While we were there we went to Lilico Beach, where we saw penguins. We also went to a town called Penguin where there is lots of penguins because of its name.

We then went to Mole Creek Karst National Park and went to see one of the caves there. We went to see Marakoopa Cave. We went on the cathedral  tour and saw some rocks that looked like a cathedral. After that we drove down to Campbell Town and met Clem. Then we stayed at a cabin at Feycinet National Park. Where I slept was a very cosy room. The next day we climbed Mt Amos. It was very scrambly up steep, slippery rocks. We slid down some of the rock because it was like a slide.

The next day we went to Hobart and back to Rydges. After that we went on the plane to Melbourne and now we are are in Melbourne at Aunty Naomi's house. Kirsty is still in Tasmania climbing a mountain.

  1. My goodness, what a huge amount of exploring in Tasmania! Your other blogs are all full of interest, right up to the Fox glacier, but you fitted so much in, and stayed in a whole variety of places in Tas. What will your favourite be when you think back, I wonder? I hope you are enjoying Melbourne - a big change. Lovely for you to see more of Clem's family as well. I think it was Aunty Naomi I met at Pitlochry years ago. Does it seem hotter in Melbourne than Tas? I loved all the pics. Rock slide looked good - hope your shorts survived un-holey! Just realised that a fortnight today you should be on your way home! Shall I recognise you, or have you all grown 10cm and gone completely brown? Love, Nana x
